Scenic Road Trips Americans Keep Coming Back to Again and Again

People really love a good road trip and it is something Americans do every single summer. We return to certain routes because the trees and mountains are so beautiful and they make us feel happy inside. These drives stay with you forever because the scenery is just that good and it makes for some really great family photos.

Blue Ridge Parkway Road

This mountain road in Virginia and North Carolina is great for a slow trip. People really love visiting in the fall to see the trees turn bright red and orange. It looks like art.

Pacific Coast Highway

This California dream takes you right along the edge of the ocean with massive cliffs and crashing waves. You can stop in Big Sur to see the famous bridge or just enjoy the salty breeze through your window.

Route 66

This road is famous for cool old diners and bright signs. People drive it because it feels like the past. It is more about the drive than just getting to the end of the road.

Road To Hana

Maui has a famous drive with hundreds of turns and old bridges. You see waterfalls and black beaches everywhere. Every turn feels like a cool new adventure on this tropical road. It is so pretty.

Going-To-The-Sun Road

Located deep in Glacier National Park, this road literally cuts through the side of massive mountains and glaciers. It is only open for a few months a year but the views of the big peaks are totally worth the wait.

Overseas Highway

This Florida road has long bridges over the ocean that connect small islands. You see blue water everywhere and it feels like you are floating to a beautiful place. It is a very cool drive.

Skyline Drive

This road stays on top of the mountains for a long time. There are over seventy places to park your car and look at the view. The valley looks really pretty from up there.

Utah Scenic Byway 12

This desert road drive has red rocks and tall stone towers that look like space. It goes between huge parks and the rock colors look awesome when the sun moves across the sky.

Kancamagus Highway

New Hampshire has this short but sweet drive that cuts right through the heart of the White Mountains. It is a local favorite for seeing the best fall colors in New England and there are no stores or gas stations to spoil the view.

Great River Road

Following the Mississippi River all the way from the north down to the south gives you a taste of many different states. You can see big river boats and charming small towns that have been sitting along the water for generations.
